When we think about casting vision and mapping out an entire new year, we can get overwhelmed. Instead, what if we took it 90 days at a time allowing us to analyze, measure, track and tweak as I go?
Is Your Vision YOUR Vision?
I don't know about you, but my inbox is insane, and it just blows up every single day, no matter how great my intention is to clean that out. That's not going to happen, right? It's not going to happen so that it's zero emails. I'm going to go to sleep and I'm going to come back tomorrow, and have all kinds of offers and "here's-what-you-HAVE-to-do-to-grow-your-business" messages sitting in my inbox. If I'm not careful, those messages may influence my decisions for my vision, and can get in the way of my vision being MY VISION. Because of FOMO (fear of missing out), and looking at what someone else is doing, I might head in direction that I'm not necessarily really wanting to go.
Connecting the Dots in the Right Direction
Looking at the coming year through the lens of vision, I can be intentional about what I'm creating and 90 days down the road, when I look back, I'll be able to see that I connected the dots in the right direction. We usually connect those dots when we look back, not forward. Yet we can be more mindful, conscious, and intentional about what we're creating, so that when we look back 90 days later, we're satisfied with what has transpired.
Map Your Vision for Where You Want Your Business to Go--NOT where is is Now It's not going to be perfect. We're ditching perfectionism. We're going for excellence, yet if we are not careful, we'll find ourselves carving a path we didn't want to go. So, that's why we need to map out a vision not from where we are right now but where we want to go.
Are you a mapping out a vision that you can track so that quarter by quarter of 2019, you are arriving there by March 31 and then June 30 and so on? By then the end of the second quarter, you want to be here, by the end of the third, you want to be here. When your standing right here in 2019, on this very day, will you have gone, done, created, and accomplished all the the things that I wanted to do that I set out at the beginning of the year?
How Big is your Vision? We should be creating God-sized vision. That means we, we need to have faith and draw from a place bigger, higher and greater than us. Let's not have our vision right at the end of the nose so that we can just go grab it. Let's cast vision for something out of our reach so that we're going to expand. I don't want to be where I am right now, a year from now. I want to do and create exciting, amazing things that advance not only my life, but, as a leader and tribe builder also enhance the lives of those who follow me.
If you are a leader, then it behooves you to take this casting and mapping so much more seriously because now it means you, someone's looking to you. And they're hoping and trusting that we have answers for them. So, it's important to not just map out our vision but to actualize and realize, what are we hoping will happen for the people that we serve. It's the continual willingness to grow, for me and my circle, to keep taking things to the next level?
Is Your Vision in Alignment? Are you in alignment with the vision you're casting? Is it in alignment with who you are, and with what you love doing? If not, it feels like a ball and chain, and a drudge to your soul. Does it light you up? That's is essential and not only what you're doing, but who you're serving. Here's a telltale sign, the phone rings, do you feel like you can't wait to talk to this person OR do you feel a kind of heaviness of heart. If it's the latter, maybe you're not serving the right people.
The important thing is to stay in alignment with what you want to be known for and who you want to serve and then to ask yourself, "What's the why behind the what?" What is your why? If you know what that is, the next two words are going to help you crystallize it. even further: SO THAT.Tell me what your why is, why you want to do what you want to do, and then I'll ask, "So that?" Every time you're creating something, put those two words on the end, SO THAT, and see if that doesn't help you crystallize and make things come in into even greater clarity for you.
Strategy Drives, Tactics is the Passenger
Finally, the question is, are you willing to map out the strategy first before you chase down all the tactics? Let's be sure we're not chasing our tails in tactics and instead be sure that we're taking everything through the grid and larger context of a bigger strategy? Then we have to be willing to do what it takes to get there?
It's time to let go of what no longer serves you, outsource what you need to and stay on point with the things that are going to show up for you SO THAT that YOUR VISION COMES ALIVE one quarter after another, getting better and better and better SO THAT 2019 completely exceed your expectations.
